Christmas is without a doubt in the world one of my favourite times of year. I love the season’s festivities, having time off work and being able to spend so much time with my family and friends. To bring this sense of festiveness to the blog, I’ve decided to do an A-Z of Christmas – I hope you enjoy!
Advent Calendar. The countdown officially begins on the 1st December when you open that first advent calendar window. I always find it incredibly hard not to eat more than one each day!
Boxing Day. For me, Boxing Day means turkey and cranberry sandwiches, pork pies and Christmas films.
Cheese. I LOVE cheese and love using Christmas as an excuse for eating as many cheese boards as I like without feeling guilty.
Decorations. I honestly think putting up the Christmas tree and decorations will never get boring, no matter how old I am!
Entertainment. Over the years, our Christmas entertainment has ranged from Just Dance on the Nintendo Wii to that board game that smacks you in the face with whipped cream!
Fruitcake. So delicious and makes you feel a little less naughty!
Gingerbread Latte. Without a doubt, my favourite Christmas drink.
Home. Christmas is hosted at my house every year, and there’s nothing better than having the entire family at home for the festive season.
I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here a.k.a Christmas is right around the corner.
Jingle Bells. Could it be the post famous Christmas song ever??
Kindling. This item is an absolute essential for Christmas! We have an open fireplace and we always end up on the rug in front of the fireplace every year for Christmas.
Lights. There’s nothing prettier than Christmas lights! I love coming home to my house in the dark when the Christmas lights are on, they’re so pretty.
Mince Pies. This year I desperately want to make my own mince pies!! I just need to find the time to do it in the run up to Christmas!
Nuts. Expect to find sharing bowls filled with a selection of nuts and dried fruit in my house at Christmas, no doubt about it.
Oven. You may as well call our oven the source of central heating throughout the festive period! We don’t have a microwave in our house so getting the timing right is crucial so that everything can be served on the table piping hot.
Pigs in Blankets. THE BEST PART OF CHRISTMAS. Sausages and bacon together? For the past couple of years, my job in helping with the preparation of Christmas dinner has been wrapping the pigs in their blankets.
Quantity. This is the ONLY time of year where it’s acceptable to eat the quantity of food that we eat.
Red Cups. I’m such a typical girl and I’ll admit it. I jump on the bandwagon every year when it comes to the excitement of the red cups. I LOVE the different designs on them this year, Starbucks have made them so much more festive!
Santa. In my house, we’re all old enough to know the truth about Mr Claus, but that definitely doesn’t stop us from leaving a mince pie, carrot and glass of wine at the bottom of the chimney!
Turkey. I love turkey and all its trimmings. I ALSO LOVE turkey, brie, bacon, stuffing and cranberry sauce in Christmas sandwiches.
Unwrapping Presents. All that shopping and waiting in long queues around Christmas becomes worth it when you see your loved ones opening the presents you’ve bought. And it’s also a pretty exciting feeling when you open the presents with your name on the gift tag!
Visits. I have family that live up north (Sheffield and Edinburgh) so it’s always lovely to have a big family reunion.
Winter Wonderland. What’s Christmas without a visit to Winter Wonderland in London? This year I went for my Christmas work party.
Xmas Day Traditions. I love the fact that SUCH an important day has so many meanings and associations for different people. On Christmas morning, pretty much my entire family will go to the church service before coming over to ours for dinner. We usually eat around 4pm and then spend the evening playing games in front of the fire and drinking prosecco.
Yule Log. An essential part of dessert at Christmas.
Zzzzzzzz. No matter how old I am, I think I’ll always be too excited to sleep on Christmas Eve! I may be 20 but I’m still a big kid at heart.
Thank you for reading my A-Z of Christmas! I hope you all have a fantastic time celebrating it and Happy New Year to you all,
