Most of you are probably thinking, Amy, what are you on about? I was exactly the same when my sister mentioned it to me, but I am SO glad she did!
Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game using GPS-enabled devices. Participants navigate to a specific set of GPS coordinates and then attempt to find the geocache (container) hidden at that location. This container can be anything from a simple piece of paper for you to write on, or a box of things that people have left.
It’s literally like a massive worldwide treasure hunt. A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!
Me and my boyfriend decided to give it a go on one lovely sunny morning. I downloaded the app, typed in my postcode and to my surprise there was one at the end of my road!
We set off in my car as we where going to try out a few places and found our first one. When you search each Cache they give you clues to where it was, so this one was hidden in a big metal road barrier.
The cache was a little blacked out chewing gum pot that had a pencil and paper in for you to sign your name. After feeling very pleased with ourselves we headed to find our next one which was around a big lake near my house. Around this lake there was quite a few but the first one we came across was a camouflage bag underneath a bridge.
In this bag was a plastic box containing things people had left and a pen and paper.
Unfortunately our next cache didn’t go to plan as there was a group of people sitting on the bench we needed to get too ( Boo) and it started raining, so we headed back.
Even though we only found two cache’s and our little adventure was cut short it was still such a fun day. Recently, I have been really into doing things outdoors. I know it’s a cliché thing to say, but we really do spend so much time inside doing nothing, so it’s so lovely to get out in the fresh air. Also, I really, really love a treasure hunt.
